This was my third time of watching the Leo Dio version of Romeo and Juliet. The first time I watched it I was pretty young and understood the basics of the movie but quite a lot went over my head.  The second time I watched it was without sound.  I was sitting on the plane with a friend of mine and saw that the guy next to me was watching it on his computer and using head phones.  My friend, gabby, had never seen the movie and we started to peer over his shoulder to watch along.  Two hours later they guy looked to his right and saw two teenage girls sobbing as Romeo killed himself. As lame as it is, we watched the whole movie over the guys shoulder without sound and still managed to cry.  (the guy was really weirded out). Anyway, watching it this time I got a lot more out of the movie.  The things that were lost on me the first time because of my age (and there were quite a few) I understood.  I loved how they still used the Shakespeare script but managed to set it in completely modern times. It might just be because I have a not so secret obsession with Leo, but I loved the movie.

I find it very interesting that the director was able to bring both the Shakespeare language, and modern day society into a movie and have it still be interesting. Chrissy, like you, loved the movie and really was able to follow along and interpret the movie. It’s wierd to think that you were able to watch this movie and get so much out of it that you were crying. Even though the language was exactly the same as we read it in class, when I know that many people in my class, along with myself, got lost reading Macbeth in class. P.S. if i had two children staring over my sholder on a plane, to watch Romeo and Juliet, I would have to say i would find it a little wierd as well.

[…] Meanwhile, in a post about Romeo and Juliet, Madeline admitted that she’s not the best person to sit next to on an airplane: I was sitting on the plane with a friend of mine and saw that the guy next to me was watching it on his computer and using head phones.  My friend, gabby, had never seen the movie and we started to peer over his shoulder to watch along.  Two hours later they guy looked to his right and saw two teenage girls sobbing as Romeo killed himself.
